Food Stash - Get More For Less

BOGO, 10 for 10, 5 for 5 - whatever they call it: this is your chance to stock up!

The above photos are clipped from today's (9/25/2017) Winn-Dixie advertisement.

These promotions and sales happen every week at pretty much any grocery store in Highlands County. Most can be combined with coupons as well. Stay clear of microwavable items though. Even with a generator purring away at your house, you might not be able to use your microwave.
You don't need to sift through your mailbox to find out about these deals, all major stores have their flyers posted on their website. All you have to do is check them once a week.

Another great source of cheap non-perishable foods is Dollar Tree (3 locations in Highlands County). Everything is $1 - EVERYTHING!!!!

Morale - Killing Time

There's no internet, no tv, no electricity. There is nothing to do and everyone is bored!

Add some cheap entertainment to your Hurricane Supplies to keep your mind busy:

1. Read a book - most thrift stores carry books for a buck or even less.
2. Play board games - most thrift stores carry them for a few bucks.
3. Learn something new - example: buy a ball of yarn and a crochet hook. Download and print "crocheting for beginners" instructions.
4. Get to know your neighbors. Go over there and say "hi"!

Food Stash - Why bother?

1. You don't have to come up with a lump sum of money out of nowhere when the next hurricane is approaching.
Time is on your side.....for now. You don't need to buy 2 weeks worth of food in one big chunk right now. You can spread it out and take advantage of sales and coupons.

2. You don't have to spend time running to the store trying to compete with thousands of other customers for what's left on the shelves.
How did it make you feel when you went to Walmart or Publix and there were empty shelves? When you couldn't get canned soups at Walmart, did you go to Winn-Dixie? Publix? How much time did you spend "hunting" for food and supplies before Hurricane Irma? You don't have to do that the next time around if you start building a food and supply stash today!

3. You sleep better!
Trust me on this one: you will sleep much better knowing you can provide for yourself and your family during an emergency.

4. It's not just for hurricanes!
Imagine you get laid off and have no income for a few weeks. Imagine your car breaks down and you need a couple of hundred dollars to get it fixed. A food stash can carry you and your family through tough times.

How many days worth of food do you have in your kitchen RIGHT NOW?
